My first Decca memories were buying the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company’s Gilbert and Sullivan recordings starting with LK 4001 Trial by Jury. When Stereo arrived I bought SXL2001 Tchaikovsky 1812 etc. and from then on bought most of my classical recordings on the Decca label, particularly those of the Suisse Romande Orchestra conducted by Ansermet. I felt that the Decca Sound was the best available. christopher n10 12/04/19

In 1978 a young man called Pat McGlynn came to see me with his Father. It seems they had seen me some years before, his Father told me I had been kind and encouraging and had said for them to come back and see me. They told me he had just left 'The Bay City Rollers' and that he was the most popular member in Japan. They played their tape and I told them I was interested and would get back to them. I asked the International Dept. to contact our company in Japan for a reaction to his signing. The next morning there was a 14 foot Telex (no emails in those days) in their office asking lots of question among them 'what colour was his underpants!' He was duly signed, his first was recorded 'When You Walk In The Room' and released. It went straight to No.1 selling a Million units. Other singles and Albums followed selling Million of records, he was indeed popular in Japan. Apart from sales in Germany there were no sales of any consequence in any other territories. In the end Decca sold his contract to King Records in Japan! Just another story from life in the A&R Dept. Frank Rodgers Decca Label Manager. Frank Rodgers 10/04/19

My first visit to Decca was to meet nigel of lt pigeon who I used to fancy. A young pfroducer - cant remember his name bill someting took me to the listening room first them up to e52 but he had vanished apparently to go to some meeting. He sent me a card appologising. I was 16. Two years later I joined DECCA and the memories were fantastic especially the Old Father Thames Pub. The first time I wasn't pushed out of the pub for looking so young. My brother used to skip school and come up to the pub. The first person I met was paco pena who came into the library for something. Gwen George 27/03/19
